Mitad del Mundo
In 1735, a group of French scientists led by Charles-Marie de La Condamine set out to measure the Earth, find the equator, and prove once and for all the world was round. Mitad del Mundo (middle of the world) is a monument to the men and their success. It lies near Quito which is the closest city to the equator in all the world. And it is Quito's pride & joy. We know this because everybody kept asking i f we had visited yet. Here is the "Avenue of Busts" with giant heads of each scientist.
The orange line separates the southern & northern hemispheres. Dana is felling really centered.
Latitude=0-0'-0" Longitude=78-27'-8"
I had to send a Spot message from the equator!
