Superstition Mountains

I tried to drive to a new trailhead, but it was so sandy that we decided to just find an old path or wash to walk along. It was so beautiful that we didn't need an established trail.
There was an interesting old corral and working windmill.
We saw a big horn sheep on this cliff. It was really exciting because big horns are rare and extremely difficult to see because they blend in so well with the mountains.
This teddy bear cholla may seem soft and furry, but that's just an illusion.

It was an extraordinarily warm and sunny day, about 68 degrees.
There were lots of large saguaro.
We found several bones including this neat vertebra.

New Mexico

Brandon and Josh went fly fishing on the San Juan River. It was -9 degrees.
He caught some rainbow trout but let them go.
From what I understand, this is all one needs to go fly fishing.
These are the larva and midge flies they used.

Dutchman's Trail

We began our 9 mile trek at the Peralta Trailhead.
Since it rained a week ago, all the usually dry washes were flowing with water. It's always a wonderful surprise to find water in the desert.
There were thick saguaro forests and interesting rock formations in Barkley's Basin.

Bluff Spring Trail

This is where the girls sleep at night in the winter.
